2009 Traverse in the books – kinda
Congrats to everyone who finished the Traverse this past weekend! I wish I could have been out there with all of you suffering (that sounds odd but it’s true). Part of me didn’t want to even show up at the event because I was depressed about not being able to ride. However, I knew I would be more sad if I didn’t go out and support all of my riding friends. I don’t have much to say about the race because I wasn’t in this one but it did once again remind me of how much I love mountain biking. Dropping Chris off at the start and seeing the anxious and excited looks on so many faces was such a great feeling. Driving up to 4 Corners to catch riders half way through their day covered in sweat and hunched over from the high temps brought me back a few weeks prior to race day during training rides. Considering I wasn’t on my bike I knew the next best way to help my friends would be to cheer them on as they passed and snap some pictures for them to remember all of their hard work. Below is a link to my Traverse gallery with over 200 images. They are all low resolution to help the gallery load, if you would like a high resolution wallpaper sized edited image please drop a comment to this post with your name, email address and the photo number as well as your plate number. That will help me locate the photo among the group. If you would like to purchase a print of your image please let me know.

Here are a few of my favorite pics from the day and also the ones that show you how much love people have for this sport. First up is a shot of Chris reaching 4 Corners. He made it with a half hour to spare. He had been cramping early on the day but pushed on with no excuses like a warrior all the way to the finish. Great job my friend!

Forgive me if I spell your name wrong my friend! Nekit was all smiles reaching his half way point. Imagine that, you have just worked your ass off climbing over 5000 feet and you still wear a smile. Gotta love it!

Jen made Chris a fun sign that said “Chris Hanson is a Fuzzy Bunny” hahaha

This is my favorite pic of the day. Gene, worked and tired and sweating from the high temps at 4 Corners. Gene you are the man and you did awesome out there!

For those of you that were wondering who was heckling you at 4 Corners, his name is Andy. Andy brought a little amusement to the hard day. My favorite motivational line from him on the day was when a female rider passed by and he said, “Just so you know I am available for full body massages to all female riders.” haha!

Donning a 24 Hours of Adrenaline jersey, Mr.131 made short work of the Traverse course. He was pumped! I believe I caught him coming across the finish line with the same expression.

Some riders didn’t stop at the finish, instead they zoomed on by looking for the beer cooler!

Chris aka CeeDubb crossing the finish line on his newly built 08 Sworks. He build this bike the day before the Traverse, this was it’s maiden voyage. It held together! Love the white tires!

Just passed the 7 hour mark Chris came across the line, exhaust, spent and ready for a nap. Good job my friend!

A few of us made our way to Riptide Sushi later that evening for some amazing nourishment and to celebrate Gene’s birthday. Chris proceeded to pound down more beverages than anyone else as per usual and began slurring his words quickly into the night. Gotta love the look on Jen’s face! She was in town supporting Chris and I for the race. Thanks again for coming out Jen it was a blast!

A few of the STR/Mtn Bike ladies joined us at Riptide also including Gene, John Early, Brenda Gilbert and Erik Brown. Thanks again for the good times everyone!

Nice blog J and killer pics. It was good to see you out there at 4 corners and at the finish. Thanks to you and Jen for the support!
You did an awesome job with the pics! I had such a great time and I am so hsppy I got to be there. Gene, you are welcome!
I thought about you this day, sad you couldn’t join.
However, was hoping (figured you would) go out and support your friends. Great pictures J!!! Can’t wait to see you race in the next one. Rest and get that knee better!
