Moments of 2009

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

2009 is coming to a close and so is another iphoto folder. I snapped away over 10,000 pictures this year combined with work. My trusty iphone took over 1200 photos alone! This year has been both good and bad for me. My health is better than it has ever been, my family doing great and my riding is getting stronger. On a down note, work is getting dismal. 2009 has also been a year of many firsts for me as you will see below! I can only hope that the good parts of 2009 continue into 2010 and that things get better around the office.

I pulled some of my favorite shots from 2009 to share with you. These aren’t the best pictures because of their quality, they are simply fun moments that have stuck in my head. Hope you enjoy them as much I as enjoyed living each one. The photos are in no particular order.

Happy 2010!

I haven’t had a surprise birthday party since I was 18! Thanks guys!

Ocotillo – Great Success!

My vacation has been a great success so far. Have been spending time with my family, friends, offroading, biking, relaxing, ahhh so nice. Over the past weekend, I headed out to Ocotillo Wells, CA with Ryan, Jen, Jen’s Mom & Dad and a few others that showed up as well. Polaris was nice enough to loan me a 2010 RZR-S for the trip so I could join in the fun. Ryan’s new RZR-S was fresh out of the fab shop just in time for the run. The TIG welding is impeccable on it! We put in well over 200 miles on the trails, deep fried 2 turkeys, lit of fireworks, burned 3 Xmas trees, it was an amazing weekend…

Great start to my vacation

Today was my first official vacation day! So, what did you think I did? I rode my bike of course! I put in a good 2.5 hours today mixing in hill intervals or what I like to call “mini ass kickers”. After my ride I whipped up some delicious Mahi Mahi Tacos that were mm mm good. Then I headed to the bike shop and picked up some weight weenie goodies for the mountain bike. I picked up the saddle a few days ago, it’s the Specialized Phenom Team saddle at only 221 grams. Today, I walked away with the Easton EC90 Zero 400mm carbon seat post weighing it at a mere 190 grams. I also picked up a super light HCNC seat post clamp which is also my first colored bling on the bike. It seems as my hours on the bike go up, the less I want the bike to weight. Well, I just wanted to post an update I am going to try and spend less time on the computer while I am on vacation. Hope everyone had a great day! It’s almost Christmas!

Goodies

Coto: A good place for road bikes

IMG_0770

Had a really good ride today through Ladera Ranch and Coto de Caza. I left the house with the goal of spending 2-3 hours on the road bike climbing over rolling hills. Riding on the road can get REALLY boring, so I mixed things up today and decided to explore a little. I made my way down to Ladera, hung a right on Oneil St., down the steep hill so I could climb back up, then climbed to the dump at the end of Antonio. From there, I turned around and headed to Oso Pkwy and made a right following it to the end. Oso is all rolling hills! At the end I reached the gate for Coto de Caza (where the rich OC people live). Making my way through mansions and golf courses, I realized this is a great place for a roadie. The entire community is filled with rolling hills, super wide lanes, friendly drivers and has plenty of small side street climbs. I was able to put in some good work today through Coto. Eventually, I found my way to the other end, crossed the gate, and made a right heading towards Robinson Rancho Road for more climbing. After reaching the top I crossed the water tower gate for a little bonus. Many of you already know this area, the Bell Ridge Mtb Trail crosses this paved path.

At this point, the work for the day had been done and it was all down hill home. Got in my time, hit my goals and the legs felt great all day. Not to mention it was a beautiful 72 degree day!
