Made a few changes to the Niner over the weekend. I thought it was time to give a go at single speeding again. The swap was pretty cheap all I needed was a new chain, cog, chain ring, tensioner and hub spacer kit. Depending on what you buy this conversation shouldn’t cost you more than around $100-$150.

This bike looks great as a SS.

Kept the XTR goods on the bike and installed a Blackspire 32t chain ring and a Yess chain tensioner that mounts to the bottom bracket.

The reason I went with the Yess is because of the cuped dropouts on this frame. This isn’t Niner’s SS frame, that would be the One9. A couple of the tensioners that I tried wouldn’t fit. The Yess worked out great. Niner has come out with their own line of rear SS cogs, and they look sweet!

Decided to change things up a bit and install a set of ESI grips. I want this bike to be light and also considering I am going to be standing more than sitting I thought opting away from the platform style Ergon’s I love would be a good thing. Time will tell… The bike weighed in at 22lbs and today I was able to give it a first ride. All good things to report back so far the bike was super smooth and well controlled going up standing/cranking. I think I may try and find some colored parts for the bike now, spice it up a little. Bring on the pain!
